Rodents

  • House Mice

    House Mice

    • Color: light brown to black, with a lighter colored underbelly
    • Description: Has short hair on its 2-3 inch long body,  a scaly tail that is longer than its body, large ears and small, black eyes
    • Concerns: The House Mouse can breed rapidly and adapt to changing conditions, thus a single pair of mice can quickly grow into an infestation. They can carry fleas, mites, ticks and lice into your home – and can get in through holes as small as 1/4 inch. They carry or cause disease, such as Salmonella food poisoning.
    • Signs of Infestation: Mice have no bladder control, so they continually excrete droplets of urine and feces as they roam about your house. Mice will eat and contaminate your food, gnaw on clothing, furniture, books – or even the structure itself. Their gnawing on electrical wires can cause fires or operational failure of appliances.

  • Rat

    Norway Rat & Roof Rats

    • Feed On: Rats will feed on human and pet foods, and contaminate the foods and containers with urine and feces.
    • Nests: They will tear up wall and ceiling insulation for their nesting, and their gnawing will damage structures, furniture, and wiring.
    • Entry: Because they are excellent climbers, they can enter homes through holes as small as 1/2 inch, that are low or high.
    • Concerns: Rats can carry and spread disease such as plague, typhus, leptospirosis, salmonellosis and rat-bite fever. Norway rat burrowing can also damage building foundations.
