Oriental Rat Flea
Also referred to as the tropical rat flea, these dark reddish brown insects ranch from 1/16″-1/8th of an inch and are known to carry the murine typhus virus. It’s name, the Rat Flea was acquired by spreading the bubonic plague. This disease is spread when the flea has fed on an infected rodent, and then bites a human. You’ll discover the Oriental Rat Fleas are found mainly on humans and rodents year round. The Oriental Rat Flea can live up to two years, solely surviving on dried feces.
